Why Nic Card gets disconnected if not in use?

I am using BSNL NIC (network interface card). When I starts some other work (typing, ms office etc) I keep on my mozilla browser on. After 10-15 min when i come back to browser and start surfing, It can not done. I loose connectivity everytime, even if i typed my mail in mozilla. Plz help me.
