Mail Help-Macintosh?

Hi i am using the mail application that comes with mac osx Tiger. and for some reason when i click an e-mail it opens it in a new window. originally it would open in the same window i must have clicked something. can someone help me and tell me how to change it back i dont want to spend 50 bucks with apple for this question
